Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 5/29

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

  • *

--Redskins great Joe Theismann has made national headlines with a number of football opinions, but used his media credential to get an up-close look at Robert Griffin III during the first week of OTAs. How did he look? Joey T. thinks RG3 will be ready for Week 1 and a very exciting 2013 season.

--Even though Robert Griffin III has no guarantee of appearing on the field at the team's inaugural training camp at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va., this has not stopped No. 10 from being excited for the move.

--Griffin III isn't the only key player returning from injury this offseason as former All-Pro outside linebacker Brian Orakpo returns from a pec injury that prematurely ended his 2012 season. 'Rak' has had no setbacks and the coaches are hoping he continues to improve.**

--So what exactly is a mental rep on the NFL practice field? Here's a description that sheds a little light on Robert Griffin III's OTA experience.**

--Redskins cornerback E.J. Biggers may be new to Washington, but he understands how much the franchise has riding on Griffin III. What has he noted so far? "You can never say too many things about somebody so awesome."**

--Nationals phenom and Cowboys-turned-Redskins fan Bryce Harper may be the latest Washington sports star to be sidelined with a knee injury, but he doesn't want to hear the comparisons. If you ask him, the comparisons to Robert Griffin III's ACL recovery are just kind of...well, stupid: "That's a dumb comment."**

--Most quarterbacks understand that the average time between snap and the collapse of the pocket is approximatey three seconds. In Week 7 against the New York Giants, Robert Griffin III got eight seconds of scrambling before finding tight end Logan Paulsen free in the secondary. It ranks in the Top-50 plays of 2012.**

--Redskins running back Alfred Morris led all rookies last season with more than 1,600 yards and 13 touchdowns, but that isn't enough for one NFL 'expert,' who insists that the talent and potential of Browns back Trent Richardson are superior to the results produced by Morris. Seriously.**

--Fresh off of an Achilles injury that ended his 2012 season in disappointing fashion, tight end Fred Davis isn't worried about his body holding up in 2013. Or the fact that the team took a tight end with the 85th overall pick: "I know what I'm doing to do. I don't know what that means for the second tight end."

--Speaking of rookies, the 2014 NFL Draft has been scheduled for May 8-10 at Radio City Music Hall. This could also change the start of free agency, the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine and more, but don't expect it to change the length and scope of offseason workout plans.

--Robert Griffin III may be four and-a-half months removed from reconstructive surgery on his ACL, but the topic still resonates with him emotionally.**

--Redskins linebacker Ken Harvey still looks like he could suit up and play on Sundays if called upon, but he is turning his attention to another sport. Don't worry, you've never heard of it--unless you're a spaceman from the future where they play Floatball. Introducing Ken Harvey, comic book sports innovator.

--Offseason additions Jeremy Trueblood and Tony Pashos are fighting an uphill battle to crack the team's 53-man roster, but are using this time to play catch-up to incumbent right tackles Tyler Polumbus and Tom Compton.

--The people have spoken, giving support to the the Redskins' name and mascot. Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder has said the team will never change the name. But that doesn't stop several members of Congress from keeping the great name debate alive.
