Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 8/26

A morning roundup of what the local and national media have to say about the Washington Redskins on Monday, August 26, 2013.

.

--The Washington Redskins thumped the Buffalo Bills 30-7 on Saturday, dominating in all facets of the game. Here are some takeaways from the action, with some additional analysis. What did you think of the home team's play? Here's a look back at what players thought.

--The quarterback rotation is unlikely to follow the route of baseball, but the Redskins certainly made it work vs. the Bills. Moreover, the quarterbacks both said they don’t mind.

--Also on offense, Fred Davis likes the team's use of the four tight end set and rotation on offense.

--At the 52nd Annual Welcome Home Luncheon on Friday, Robert Griffin III addressed the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.

--Redskins incumbent punt returner and cornerback Richard Crawford got the worst news on his knee injury: torn LCL and possible ACL tear, done for the season. Look at how this could cause a ripple effect for the rest of the Redskins roster composition.

--With linebacker London Fletcher telling Sports Illustrated that he has played through concussions in the past, one reporter questions whether the NFL can protect players from themselves. Some would argue this sets a bad example for current and future NFL players.

--From all appearances, Roy Helu Jr. appears to have seized the primary backup job at running back, making an early impact on offense. Fellow backup bounces back from Monday Night and makes the most of his opportunities vs. Buffalo.

--The Redskins trotted out another unusual rookie on Saturday afternoon, having CSNWashington’s Chick Hernandez call the action in front of his first national TV audience.

--Head coach Mike Shanahan tells the media to expect ‘similar reps’ for Robert Griffin III in practice this week. Are the constant updates on Robert Griffin III's recovery a good thing for all involved?

--Right tackle Tyler Polumbus gave coaches no reason to challenge him at right tackle. Was that competition over before it ever began?

--Running back Alfred Morris showed no outrage at the new crown of the helmet rule for offensive players, particularly running backs, because it won’t affect the way he plays the game.

--Robert Griffin III may be off the field for preseason action, but that doesn't mean that he’s out of the public eye.

--Roster cuts are expected to be announced by the end of the day. Who makes the team? How does the final 53-man roster look? One thing that seems certain is that the Redskins roster will look much like it did last year—which is a good thing.

--The Redskins will need a highly-competitive roster this year, as general manager Bruce Allen notes that the NFC East is like "the SEC of the NFL."

--The Redskins passed the test against the Buffalo Bills, but their success against a fast-paced offense may be what really buoys them going into Week 1 vs. the Eagles.

--Here's a review of how the offense did against the Bills, and separately how the defense fared.
