With Orakpo Sidelined, Jackson to Make First NFL Start

Fresh off the practice squad, linebacker Rob Jackson is expected to start in place of Brian Orakpo on Sunday in Jacksonville.

Orakpo has been ruled out for Sunday's game due to hamstring and groin injuries.

His status is not a big surprise – head coach Mike Shanahan said earlier this week that Orakpo was doubtful for the Jaguars game.

Jackson's start – his first in the NFL – is a mild surprise, though.

"I'm up for the challenge," he said after Friday's practice.

The third-year player and 2008 seventh-round draft pick by the Redskins is starting ahead of Chris Wilson, who backed up Orakpo all season.

Jackson, who transitioned to linebacker from defensive end last offseason, has played in just eight games in his three seasons with the Redskins.

Jackson said he was excited to show what he can do on game day.

"Everyone knows this game is just about opportunities, and if you don't take advantage of your opportunities, you may not get another one," he said.

-- GOLSTON OUT AGAIN

Defensive end Kedric Golston has been ruled out of Sunday's game as he continues to rehab groin and elbow injuries.

Golston also sat out last Sunday's game vs. Dallas.

Along with Orakpo, safety Reed Doughty (concussion) has also been ruled out.

Safety Kareem Moore (knee) and kick returner Brandon Banks (knee) were limited in practice on Friday and are expected to be game time decisions.

-- JONES-DREW DOUBTFUL

The Redskins' defense may catch a break this Sunday in Jacksonville.

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is listed as doubtful for the game with a knee injury.

Jones-Drew, all 5-7 and 208 pounds of him, is second in the NFL with 1,324 rushing yards. He is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and has five rushing touchdowns.

If he can't play, then second-year speed back Rashad Jennings would likely start in his place.
