Renaldo Wynn underwent surgery to repair his fractured forearm on Sunday morning, team officials said. The veteran defensive end will wear a brace over the forearm for the next eight weeks.
Wynn will be sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs, team officials said. Although his injury is not career-threatening, it was serious enough that he would not be able to play with a protective cast covering the forearm.
Wynn suffered the injury in the first quarter of the Redskins' 17-10 playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday. It is expected that Wynn will be placed on injured reserve early this week. That would open up a roster spot.
Wynn should be fully healthy by the start of mini-camp in April, team officials said.
Also during Saturday's game at Tampa Bay, wide receiver James Thrash suffered a fracture in his thumb. He is expected to undergo surgery on Monday afternoon, team officials said.
After surgery, hand specialists will fit Thrash with a splint and the ninth-year receiver could be available to practice later this week and play in Saturday's game at Seattle.
His status will be updated by the Redskins on Tuesday, when the team is required to release an official injury report.
If Thrash is unable to play, wide receivers Taylor Jacobs and Jimmy Farris would likely see playing time in his place. Antonio Brown, who has played mostly on special teams as a kick return specialist, could also be in the mix.
Meantime, cornerback Shawn Springs remains day to day with a groin injury. Team officials will continue to evaluate Springs through the week.
Springs sat out Saturday's game against the Buccaneers, as the Redskins deactivated him and started Walt Harris and Carlos Rogers. He had been listed as questionable heading into the game.
Last week, Springs was optimistic that he'd be able to play in a Divisional Playoff game, if the Redskins got that far.
Springs may have extra incentive to get back on the field because the Redskins will face his former team, the Seahawks. Springs played for the Seahawks from 1997-2003.
