In the rare event that the Redskins will need someone other than a quarterback under center, Jordan Reed and Jamison Crowder can serve in the position in case of emergency.

While it's a situation the Redskins hope they won't face this season, tight end Jordan Reed and wide receiver Jamison Crowder will likely serve as the team's emergency quarterbacks.

"We will put a package together for somebody," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said. "It's either going to be Jordan Reed or Crowder, most likely. Jordan Reed played a little quarterback in college and Crowder is a good enough athlete. He can throw both hands, so we might have to let him do it."

Reed's sticky hands and sharp route running have bumped him into top NFL tight end discussions, but he actually started his career at the University of Florida playing quarterback.

Reed dressed for nine games at quarterback for the Gators, starting in the Outback Bowl against Penn State during the 2010 season. He'd complete eight-of-13 passes for 60 yards in the game.

"It's not what it was when I was in college, but I've still got a little something there," Reed said with a smile about still having a strong arm.

He also admitted that he could still potentially throw it 50 or so yards down the field

Crowder, meanwhile, attempted one pass last season against the New York Jets, but it was thrown out of bounds after he took a handoff from Cousins.

The Duke product completed two-of-four pass attempts for 33 yards and a touchdown during his college career.

Of course, with Trent Williams, Colt McCoy and Nate Sudfeld on the roster, the chances of either player going under center are unlikely, it's always good to have an plan in case of emergency.
