Matt Bowen Places Ryan Kerrigan On List Of Players Deserving Of More Hype

BleacherReport's Matt Bowen – who played for the Washington Redskins from 2003-2005 – recently wrote an article shouting out five players he believes deserve more hype entering the upcoming season, and linebacker Ryan Kerrigan appears on the list.

Kerrigan – who is entering his fifth season with the Redskins – is coming off a career season in which he recorded 73 tackles with 13.5 sacks and four fumbles forced.

But while Redskins fans know just how talented the Purdue product is, he doesn't exactly get the same attention league-wide.

"Kerrigan had 13.5 sacks in 2014, but how often do we hear his name mentioned with the top edge-rushers in the NFL? We know about Cam Wake, Von Miller, Justin Houston or Terrell Suggs. Those guys can get home to the quarterback. But Kerrigan can do that too, and he has a really nice mix of speed and technique," Bowen writes.

And whether it's from his current position of outside linebacker or his college position of defensive end in certain packages, Kerrigan has "extremely active hands."

"That allows him to get a jump off the ball and then swat down the initial punch from the offensive tackle while creating a path to the quarterback," Bowen says. "Plus, he has the athletic ability to set up tackles at the point of attack, get them back on their heels and then convert speed to power."

Bowen also has a GIF example of Kerrigan getting around the edge with ease during the game against the St. Louis Rams last season.

The Redskins Blog dedicated a whole post to Kerrigan GIFs, which you can find here.

CHIME IN: *Do you think Kerrigan is "underrated" in league circles? *
