Nico Marley's Dad Only Watched The Redskins Growing Up In Jamaica

Newly signed linebacker Nico Marley continued his mini press tour on Thursday when he joined NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" to talk about his emotions joining the professional ranks.

Before he could get in a word, host Kay Adams dropped a little tidbit about Marley's father, Rohan, that makes Marley's decision to sign with the Redskins all that more meaningful.

"Growing up in Jamaica, [Rohan] wasn't very familiar with American football and he had a satellite and there was one team that he watched, and that team was, in fact, the Redskins," Adams explained.

This might have been prophecy or just a coincidence. Either way, Marley is excited to play in Washington, a "beautiful place with beautiful people," he said.

"First I want to thank the entire Redskins organization for giving me a chance and the opportunity and just believing in me," he said on "Redskins Nation." "The last three weeks, I guess it wasn't surprising. Coming out of high school I just had one Division 1 offer and two Division 1AA, that's not really the route I wanted to take. So just one Division 1 offer so in the back of my mind it was just kind of what I was used to. If I would of got drafted that would of been something new to me, not being the underdog. Just being the 'underdog' is something I am used to. It's been like that and I have been having to prove myself."

The Marley family also uses the hashtag #LionOrder, which is a life motto and way to describe Nico's playing ability.

"That's kind of me, just a lion on the field, running around, just trying to do the best I can do." Marley said. "Make plays, run around, get tackles, play crazy."
