Social Evolution: Josh Norman Signs

For roughly 30 hours, between Thursday evening and Friday night, Redskins Nation was on #NormanWatch.

Newly minted as an unrestricted free agent, cornerback Josh Norman had barely processed the news that the Panthers had rescinded his franchise tag before the Redskins were swooping in with an offer. He was eventually sold, and signed a lucrative contract to be in Washington on a reported five-year deal.

It all happened so fast. Those who have a casual relationship with social media would have been easily overwhelmed upon opening their Twitter feeds. Reports began surfacing, followed by more, with variations of new information.

Once it all became public, players began nervously posting in anticipation of big news. And in between, there was a lot of waiting.

It began innocently enough. The Redskins had interest. Then, things progressed rapidly.

The waiting game began. Upon Norman's arrival to Redskins Park around 1:45 p.m., the question started shifting from "if" to "when." You could feel Redskins players pacing back and forth in their reactions.

And then an agreement. And then the excitement.
