In a heavily-contested race, both major Redskins fans competing in the Daytona 500 drove their cars to a promising finish Sunday afternoon.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Denny Hamlin finished third and fourth, respectively, falling just shy of race winner Joey Logano after battling a final heat that saw drivers separate three cars wide.

We all know about Earnhardt Jr.'s ties to the Redskins but Hamlin, a member of the Joe Gibbs Racing Team, has also been a committed fan since being raised in Chesterfield, Va.

"I think there's a picture of me in a Redskins helmet and a Redskins jersey, probably when I was about three years old," Hamlin said last year. "And my mom was taking a bunch of pictures and I was outside and I was kicking the ball around. I wanted to be the next great kicker."

Carl Edwards (24th) and Matt Kenseth (35th) also finished the race as a part of the Joe Gibbs Racing Team.
