Meet Captain Jordyn:

Please introduce yourself: We want to know a little bit about your Cheerleading/Dance/ Gymnastics background, or why you became a WRC/WRCA?

Hi, my name is Jordyn and this is my 4th year as a Washington Redskins Cheerleader. Dancing and cheerleading mean so much to me. I have danced and cheered at local studios and on various teams my whole life! In fact, I was even a Jr. Redskins All-Star dancer as a kid. I was so inspired by seeing the WRC perform, and I loved dancing on the field so much that I decided to audition as soon as I was 18, which is the minimum age you can be to audition for the team.

How long have you been a WRC/WRCA captain/co-captain?

This is my first season as captain and I still can't believe it's real! Leading our team of superwomen is the most incredible opportunity I've ever been given.

What do you like about your position?

I like how rewarding being in this position is. My heart bursts with happiness when a teammate tells me they had a good night at practice or when I see a dance routine come together.

Have you always wanted to be a leader/captain?

No, I haven't! Being a captain was never something I envisioned myself doing. This position has pushed me out of my comfort zone and has made me a stronger cheerleader and person.

What is your Leadership style?

At our first captains meeting, we received a folder with advice from former captains. There was a quote that stuck with me, and describes my leadership style, "True leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders." I like coaching my teammates and developing them for the future whether it be on the team or in their personal lives.

What attributes do you think a great leader should have?

Leaders have to be able to put their teammates before themselves.

As captain, what is your biggest Challenge? Or what do you anticipate your biggest challenge will be?

"If there were not challenges, we'd have little need for leaders!"

I that think for me the biggest challenge so far has just been balancing this new role with the other responsibilities in my life. I am very lucky to have Chantelle, Masako, and Jade to support me.

How can your teammates help support you as a leader?

I want my teammates to continue to shine. Nothing makes me happier!

For other leaders out there explain how the importance of delegating roles and responsibilities and how you manage that?

Something unique we do on our team is committees. Each veteran is part of a committee and holds a specific responsibility on the team. I think it helps make our job as captains easier and also gives the other ladies an opportunity to be in charge of something they are passionate about.

Do you have any leadership goals for this year?

My goal is for everyone to walk away from their last game feeling stronger, empowered, and proud.

As a leader, what do you want to be remembered for? What do you want your legacy to be?

I want to be remembered as someone who genuinely cared for her teammates. I probably sound like a broken record but I CANNOT say enough how much my teammates mean to me. They truly bring the best out of me and push me to be a better captain.

How do you hope to inspire the next generation of leaders?

Great captains see beyond their time in regards to the future of WRC. They seek out long-term success and realize others must take their place someday.
