Washington Salute would like to warmly congratulate Norfolk Naval Base for being named the eleventh Washington Salute Base of the Week presented by Nissan of the 2020-21 NFL Season! Throughout the season, Washington Salute and Nissan will be teaming up to highlight the service members on installations throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. We welcome all Washington Salute members and military supporting fans to join us on our venture as we honor and celebrate the sacrifice and service of the men and women on our local installations!

Number of People on Installation: At NS Norfolk there are more than 80,000 active duty; 112,000 family members; 30,000 DoD civilians. To say Norfolk is a big Navy town is an understatement. The Active Duty, Reservists, DoD Civilians make up nearly 30% of the region's population.

Description of Installation: Naval Station Norfolk is a United States Navy base in Norfolk, Virginia, that is the headquarters and home port of the U.S. Navy's Fleet Forces Command. The installation occupies about 4 miles of waterfront space and 11 miles of pier and wharf space of the Hampton Roads peninsula known as Sewell's Point. It is the world's largest naval station, with the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces through 75 ships alongside 14 piers and with 134 aircraft and 11 aircraft hangars at the adjacently operated Chambers Field. Port Services controls more than 3,100 ships' movements annually as they arrive and depart their berths. Air Operations conducts over 100,000 flight operations each year, an average of 275 flights per day or one every six minutes. Over 150,000 passengers and 264,000 tons of mail and cargo depart annually on Air Mobility Command aircraft and other AMC-chartered flights from the airfield's AMC Terminal.J.

Highlights with Washington Football Team: In 2012, the Washington Football Team First Ladies of Football visited Norfolk Naval Base in celebration of their 80th anniversary road tour boosting morale for military members across the world! Washington football tours and introduction campaigns for players and coaches have also included a variety of stops, shows, and meet-and-greets on the installation. We thank airmen that have come to FedExField annually for flyovers during each home game hailing from the installation, and are excited to continue our partnership with the US Air Force. Finally, on November 2nd, the team was proud to boost morale at the USO Norfolk Center as it was the final stop of the 2020 Touching Bas Tour!
